Nominations and New Scene

The nominations for the 34th Saturn Awards have come out and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has received nine nominations including “Best Fantasy Film.” The ceremony will be held on June 24 in California.

In addition, David Barron, a producer on the Harry Potter films, recently spoke about a new scene in the Half Blood Prince movie. Thanks to HPANA for the tip! The news is pretty spoilery – you ready?
David said about the new scene, in which a dramatic disaster occurs at the Burrow:

We don’t often have things that aren’t in the book.

But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world-there’d be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody’s parents had been killed or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn’t think it was safe. And we’re made aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.

The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn’t do that quite so easily in the film. So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. Even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody’s safe. I think you’ll like it. It’s quite effective.

alright, one problem; the burrow is key in the 7th film? what are they thinking! destroy something else, not the burrow!

They don’t have Bill and Fleur in the movie. So in DH there won’t be a wedding between the two at the Burrow. Besides they didn’t say the Burrow would be destoryed but attacked. I think it will be okay. :)

I hate that they add ridiculous scenes that aren’t in the books, and then cut important things that ARE in the books. Just make a three hour movie – the REAL HP fandom will watch it.

Yeah – I agree with Laura. It’s so many important and memorable moments from the book they are cutting out in the film. It really annoys me! Especially when they’re making a new scene that’s NOT in the book! That’s wasting of video tape..
