Wednesday August 25th 2010 in People Tree's Autumn/Winter Campaign for 2010.

After a successful stint as creative consultant for People Tree's "Love from Emma" range, Emma returned as the face of People Tree for their autumn/winter campaign. While she did not play an active role in the design and style of clothing, she did participate in promotion around Dhaka, Bangladesh; Emma not only toured the slums of the workers, but also helped in the manufacture of some clothing, gave out food packages to the children of Dhaka and even helped in one of the primary schools as a tutor!

Candid issue

filed under: General

As some of you may have been aware, the paparazzi stepped way too far. The staff have been discussing the issue of the candids in our gallery. We’ve come to two options – delete the most scandalous ones, or adopt a policy of absolutely no candids in our galleries, as a way to ensure Emma has her respected (and deserved!) privacy.

I, myself, am currently leaning towards the latter. I’ve tolerated paparazzi photos previously, as they were tame and not very intrusive, but this time, I believe they’ve gone too far. We just want to know some of your thoughts before we decide.

For the moment, I’ve barred all the candid albums until we reach a decision.

EDIT: I’d just like to restate and stress that we did not and would never at any time have any of the obscene/inappropriate images of Emma uploaded to the site. Thank you all for advocating removal of those, and please do know that we fully agree with you on those points. – Allison

EDIT: The gallery is down temporarily for an upgrade regarding security issues and should be available again shortly. – Allison

  1. i guess you could post candids of her when she’s smiling like in some of the others…but ones where she looks angry or tired then we dont need to see that. especially now.

    Comment by mak — April 22, 2008 @ 7:48 pm

  2. Surely you can leave the ones of ONLY her underwear out. I think she’s a pretty girl who doesn’t have to be smiling on every photo.. A lot of fansites post all kinds of photos, that’s just life. Let’s just be happy she has underwear on.

    Comment by Erika — April 22, 2008 @ 8:03 pm

  3. To be honest, I didn’t really like these photos…something about them makes me feel Emma wouldn’t want them here. I mean, the last candid photos – where she was getting into her car at London at daytime – even in those she looked terribly disturbed.
But, as mak says, a couple of all right pictures would be okay.

    Comment by Tanvi — April 22, 2008 @ 8:04 pm

  4. i suppose posting candids is something normal as long as it does not consist of intrusive photos. It’s nice to see emma candids but it certainly has gone to far due to this recent event. My opinion is that you should post candids of emma just delete the pics of her 18th or just the ones which are waayy too intrusive(i dont think you’ve added those anyway :) )
i think the site handle the pics thing very well so i see no way to stop posting candid as long as they’re “pleasant” and do not invade her privacy at some certain level.

    thank you

    Comment by anonymous — April 22, 2008 @ 8:07 pm

  5. I think you just sort out those pictures that are “hitting below the belt”…the rest is ok…

    Comment by Mylene — April 22, 2008 @ 8:38 pm

  6. I think candids are OK, she was out in public, just about anybody could have taken those photos. I do have a problem with the upskirt photos. I’m sure those were taken by a paparazzi low-life with a powerful zoom lens, he got exactly the shot he was hoping to get. Hopefully people will tire of seeing shots like those and they wont be posted or printed. Some of my favorite photos are candid, just be choosy about what you post. (Would she want it posted for others to see?)

    Comment by heather — April 22, 2008 @ 8:50 pm

  7. I believe that Emma is in the spot light for a reason, shes a star, someone who is very smart and attractive. I think its fine to leave all the photos in the gallery, except the ones that reveal parts that are private and not for anyone to see, these photos are a disgrace and shouldnt be showen anywhere to be seen. A lot of young kids look up to Emma because she is such a bright young actress who doesnt do any revealing photo shoots to put herself out there, which shows she is full of class. Any photos that show that she is tired, moody or what ever, is fine it shows that Emma is human and is just like the rest of us. I hope that Emma is coping well, with every web site posting these pictures it cant be easy being in the public eye.

    Comment by Paul — April 22, 2008 @ 9:11 pm

  8. I think you should delete these ones you posted eairler. I think they was to MUCH. All there other was fine with me.

    Comment by Tatiana — April 22, 2008 @ 9:29 pm

  9. Anything that would make you want to punch the photographer if it was your daughter, off with it!

I don’t especially like the ones where she seems pissed (for a reason), but I don’t think they hurt her image so…ok I guess.

    Comment by Edouard — April 22, 2008 @ 10:05 pm

  10. My opinion: keep posting paparazzi pictures ONLY if they’re not violating Emma’s privacy. From this party, you can keep the ones you uploaded yesterday (those 42) cause they don’t seem overdone. Emma can look fabulous even at a short visit to a shop center so it would be a pity to not show them (I’m talking about candids in general).

In conclusion, post the nice ones, ignore the rude ones! :)

    Comment by Iza — April 22, 2008 @ 10:09 pm

  11. I agree with you; you should delete the ones where she looks all exhausted, and when the paparazzies are really annoying her :)

    Comment by Lily — April 22, 2008 @ 10:29 pm

  12. It’s a thorny issue and I think the safest option is to decline to publish the candid photos. At the very least, they should be carefully vetted.

Emma is a lovely girl but upskirt photos have no place in appreciating her beauty.

    Comment by Night's Heart — April 22, 2008 @ 10:33 pm

  13. I guess you should only delete the ones with her underwear, it must be really embarassing for Emma… I mean all her family and friends must’ve seen them, and it was her birthday!
But she looked glamorous so it would be a pity to delete all of them.

Anyway… she perfectly knew that there would have been papparazzis all over the place, so she should’ve put on more… suitable knickers, don’t you think?

    Comment by pauleen — April 22, 2008 @ 10:42 pm

  14. i would keep the paparazzi pictures but only the ones who are not violating her privacy or are embarrasing for her.
we all wanna see what she´s wearing when she´s out shopping so that would be a pity if you don´t post candid pictures in general.
so just leave out the really really private and perv ones!

    Comment by miriam — April 22, 2008 @ 10:59 pm

  15. Just for the record, we never posted the upskirt ones.

    Comment by Kaetlyn — April 22, 2008 @ 11:10 pm

  16. i think it’s ok to leave the ones in that are ok for her and us, i think normal candits are all ok for this, and it’s after her birthday, and there are some very cool and pretty ones, so i think these ones go all ok :)

of course the stupid ones can be left out – noone needs them, i’d think!

    xx

    Comment by Jimspeed — April 22, 2008 @ 11:39 pm

  17. Well, I think it’s your site, post what you feel comfortable posting. If you were Emma, and you think that you would disapprove if you were in her shoes, then don’t post them.

    Comment by John — April 23, 2008 @ 12:34 am

  18. You should delete those stupid pictures. The paps have gone too far and they’ve disrecpected her. I certainly state my displeasure of them now.

    Comment by Jimmy — April 23, 2008 @ 1:05 am

  19. I think normal candids showing her shopping or etc can be shown, but the ones – upskirt ones – no!

    Comment by Isabelle — April 23, 2008 @ 1:47 am

  20. To be frank, candid photos are what people most want to see of Emma.
I think that you should still post paparazzi photos, but not any that make you feel, erm, squiggly.
i.e. Put yourself in her shoes – post only pictures that you would want of yourself on the internet.

    Comment by Addison — April 23, 2008 @ 2:12 am

  21. Well, i agree with your decision about those horrible pictures, we all should respect Emma, she’s an amazing person, and she does not deserve this.
But I do think that you should keep the rest of the candids, the ones that are not offensive, i mean, she does looks great on it. The point is: They are not offensive, so I think you shold keep it in your gallery. But that’s it.
Anyway, the gallery is yours, and the decision is yours, but since the website was made for fans, you should consider this… :D
Poor Emma. Gosh, i hope she’s ok.
Ps.: I’m sorry about my english, i’m still learning…

    Comment by Laura — April 23, 2008 @ 2:14 am

  22. I like the idea of candid pictures because it gives the fans a chance to see Emma how she really is. Although I believe that the paps went too far this time around, I think its nice to see Emma as a normal 18-year old girl. Doing without the uncomfortable pictures is a must but I don’t think completely abolishing all candid pictures of Emma is right either. And besides, in the 8 years that Emma has been in this business, there have only been a few paparazzi encounters, so I think until it gets to be uncontrollable, you should keep posting the pictures.
However, all of this is just my opinion, and you should do whatever you think is in the best interest of your site as well as Emma.

    Comment by Whitney — April 23, 2008 @ 2:22 am

  23. I think you should not publish the photos of her underwear, but the other candid pics, at least the old ones, should be back. Thay were so beautiful, and they were taken in sorta public places/events =)

    Comment by Julia — April 23, 2008 @ 2:36 am

  24. As long as they aren’t intrusive I don’t see a problem with candid pictures. All the other candids you have in the gallery seem perfectly acceptable to me.

    Comment by Tracey — April 23, 2008 @ 3:13 am

  25. I understand your issue Kaetlyn, and I have had this issue on DRNet as well. Soem on these spics go a tad far, but not ALL of them. I say take the one syou feel are gross and invading her personal space, but I wouldn’t remove them totally. She is a celeb, and it happens. if you remove these you may as well remove all candids and paperazzi , cause they all do the same thing. Catch her in her life and space.

    Comment by Juliet — April 23, 2008 @ 3:14 am

  26. First of all this is a fan site . Showing Emmasome
respect is the idea and that should be the premise .
Personally I find it not in good taste to post any picks of Emma would find in poor taste . She is a popular celeb that will be hounded for the obscene and or any kind of revealing photos and they don’t belong here . Showing Emma respect is the Idea
when posting photos . Let people find that kind of thing other places than here . It’s the right thing to do . I would hope to a great extent Emma could enjoy her fans as we enjoy her . Be a good fan site be supportive of her .

    Comment by dannl — April 23, 2008 @ 3:23 am

  27. I think you should keep the pictures where she’s still smiling, they were really good pictures. But if you want to respect her feelings, I think you should delete the ones where she’s clearly really upset.

    Comment by helena123 — April 23, 2008 @ 3:31 am

  28. I’d keep the normal-candids. I mean .. when she’s out doing no harm, I can’t see what’s the big deal. Do not post pics such as the ones that are doing so much noise at the moment.

    Comment by Hermione Weasley — April 23, 2008 @ 3:45 am

  29. The pics tht were normal shudnt have been removed. The ones tht are invade her privacy are the ones tht shud b removed. I only saw some of her pics, plz do put all of thm baq on.

    Thx

    Comment by Ali — April 23, 2008 @ 3:54 am

  30. Get rid of the scandalous ones.

    Comment by Tayna — April 23, 2008 @ 3:55 am

  31. I agree that the paparzzi went far too far. Personally I thik you should delete any ‘scadolous’. Anyway, so far the pics Ive saw on here are not bad, their all respectful. Unfortunatly some sites have posted all of them, including the rude ones.

    Comment by Lauren — April 23, 2008 @ 4:01 am

  32. I think the candids are appropriate on fan sites. I believe they become inappropriate when they become “kitty porn” looking for pedifiles. (By this I mean close up crotch, butt, or boob shots.)

I love seeing the appropriate candids, and hope you keep the positiive ones on your site.

Thanks for asking for our opinion!

    Comment by Giavanna — April 23, 2008 @ 4:33 am

  33. What the hell is the point of taking all of the candids off? You do realize that many of your fans will simply use galleries on other emma watson fan sites to look at candids. Therefore you’re going to loose many of your recent visitors, me included.

Ok, perhaps take the ones of her crotch off. But keep everything else on. There is no point whatsoever removing all of the pictures. Her respect is going to be violated anyway, and if fans cannot find the pictures here, they will go somewhere else.

    Comment by Sarah — April 23, 2008 @ 5:08 am

  34. Just delete the ones of only her ….. erm….girl parts? xD

    Comment by Samantha — April 23, 2008 @ 8:08 am

  35. Being the Emma we know and love, she’ll look really gorgeous in some of the paparazzi photos – like the ones at the beginning of this batch – but I’d bar any where you can tell she’s not happy they’re taking pictures of her, which will probably happen a lot more now that she’s 18 and the paparazzi are allowed to hound her

    Comment by Jess — April 23, 2008 @ 8:37 am

  36. I would stick with candids where Emma KNOWS she’ll get her picture taken like leaving TV shows. Those aren’t a big deal. The others I’m not so sure about.

    Comment by Natalie — April 23, 2008 @ 9:15 am

  37. I totally agreed with mak (first comment). You can keep the ones where she’s smiling, but not the ones where she looks tired, sad and in my opinion almost crying.

    Comment by Sandrine — April 23, 2008 @ 7:10 pm

  38. I just saw images from the same event, and loads of the images were of Emmas panties.. I was disgusted by the images posted of Emma. You should keep the once that are not of her crotch.. Poor Emma, I feel really sorry for her! The paparazzi zooming at her “girl-parts”.. It is horrible!! But you should keep the images of Emma walking, but those taken in the car are way to intrusive..

    Comment by Joanna — April 23, 2008 @ 7:24 pm

  39. It atrocious……cant these parparazzi people let emma live by herself? Why dont they respect her as a person! Its really bad…..and I cannot stand this…..please make it a point to fight this issue..I appreciate iheartwatson.net supporting em and her privacy and as her loyal fan I’d want to see her being respected in all ways.

    Comment by Navya — April 23, 2008 @ 10:06 pm

  40. PLEASE get rid of those inappropriate pictures! I would say keep the other ones of her just walking. I agree with Joanna- delete the pics of her in the car as well. It’s one thing when she is out on the street in public, it’s another when paparazzi are gathering around her car trying to catch private moments and, in my opinion, putting everyone in some danger as they block and surround the car. That’s where they go too far in my opinion. I can imagine that could be a bit scarry or at least really frustrating for anyone so lets support emma and get rid of those specific pictures.

    Comment by Alaina — April 23, 2008 @ 10:19 pm

  41. Candid photos of Emma are my fave Emma photos. I have to admit, the photogs did go waaaayyy too far with these photos. I saw them on another site, and I have to say, that was a little more of Emma than I cared to ever see. I mean, they got EVERYTHING private in those photos. They completely disrespected Emma by taking those photos, I feel so sorry for her. I wonder if she saw those photos, I bet she went in her room and cried for a few hours. If I were her, I would sue, I don’t know who to sue, but I would.

As I was saying, candid photos are the best. So, in my opinion, include candid photos in the gallery, but take away the ones that disrespect, defame and hurt her reputation in any way. Those, I have to admit, should be taken out, but leave the other ones in. It’s not like they’re private personal photos of her, she’s out on the streets, where photogs are, so candids aren’t really that bad. Emma should really come to America now. Those photos aren’t even on TMZ, or on TV. We usually report things like this in a heartbeat. Maybe no American press has gotten a hold of them yet. Let’s hope it stays that way. Photos like this can ruin someone’s life. STAY STRONG, EMMA!

    Comment by Kristin M. — April 24, 2008 @ 2:00 am

  42. Shes lucky, I didn’t see any American news outlet that reported on this so it could’ve been far worse. Imagine if it were on Perez? Emma isn’t really a big star over here though so it was relatively well contained.

    Comment by Hanzel — April 24, 2008 @ 2:08 am

  43. I myself found these photos really scandalous. As you said, press this time has gone way too far. Poor Emma, she doesn’t deserve this at all. People talk about these scandalous pictures instead of her new project, Napoleon and Betsy. But, in my fansite (a brazilian one dedicated to Emma), I put candids. Not these horrible ones, just the normal ones. Althought i really think it’s disrespectful to do some things like this, i think candids are a nice way for us to see how Emma is out the spotlight.

    Comment by Taty — April 24, 2008 @ 3:04 am

  44. I think you should keep the regular candid shots, but delete the ones that obviously and blatently infringe on her privacy. I love Emma and love seeing photos of her (she really isn’t seen in too many candid photos, so I’m happy when you update your site with them.)

I am very sorry that this happened to someone like her, and hope that people treat her better in the future.

    Comment by Elizabeth — April 24, 2008 @ 5:18 am

  45. I wouldn’t post any pap pictures if i were you. It’s the decent and most respectful thing you can do for Emma ;-)

It’s easy to want the most pictures in the gallery or gain more traffic to your site, but at the end of the day what does that all mean if Emma wouldn’t feel comfortable in visiting your website?

I think you do a great job here and as you’re website is a FAN website, then you should do the decent thing ;-)

    Good luck.

    Comment by Jo — April 24, 2008 @ 8:23 am

  46. I think that as long as the photos are in good taste, then they are fair game. It really boils down to a simple question: would Emma approve of them or not? Or rather, if you were in her position, what would you like to be publicized or not? Celebrities may be “fair game” when out in public, and some even acknowledge this, but that does not mean we must deny them basic human rights of dignity in an attempt to satisfy the public’s absurd thirst for more more more. We must all remember that though Emma is famous, she is still a person with feelings. Anything can be tasteful in moderation.

    Comment by Katie — April 24, 2008 @ 10:59 am

  47. I think that the “private” picts should be put away. Their not what emma is about at all and we all know that.

I really respect this site b/c they are thinking about Emma feelings like she is a real person and also her fans feelings/reaction. It something that is lacking in the famous/hollywood zone.

    Comment by Liz — April 24, 2008 @ 11:23 am

  48. I think candid photos are fine, as long as they don’t show any part of Emma’s body that should be kept private to her (filthy, perverted paparazzi, uggh I hate them).

Obviously in this case that’s the “up-the-skirt” photos, and I know other celebs have had wardrobe malfunctions or what is commonly called a “nipple slip”. Anything like that (should it ever happen) shouldn’t be posted because they are rude, inappropriate, and disrespectful.

The regular pics of Emma walking out of the restaurant, or those ones a while back of her with grocery bags, I would say are okay.

But that’s just my two cents! :)

    Comment by Hannah — April 24, 2008 @ 12:31 pm

  49. Well, with everything around today (internet for one) and multiple examples like Britney, I would wonder wether she didn’t wanted to be photographed like that. Maybe her way to show she is a full grown up, who knows. Would just remove all those pics and still keep the others. The one’s who want to see these sort of pics will find them anyway.

    Comment by shabbir — April 24, 2008 @ 7:35 pm

  50. I hope this doesnt change people’s views towards her, as she didnt really want this as most clebs do it for publicity.
You shud display the non-intrusive photos or otherwise there would be a drop in the visiotrs.

    Comment by ali — April 24, 2008 @ 8:35 pm

  51. I think it would be really radical not to put ANY candid on the site. As Ali saind, there would be a HUGE drop in the visitors. I would like to visit other sources myself, and you guys have do judge it, you put here only the pictures which are NOT obscene! what’s bad in that?

    Comment by Maddy — April 24, 2008 @ 11:40 pm

  52. pls whatever u do…delete any emma pics which is ill taken!do not post any pic-invade em’s privacy to such an extent it goes into her clothes!i hope u guys get my point…even those with her looking moody/sad shldnt be posted…she doesnt wanna look at the papz..they fllwd her home at 4.30am..who wouldnt be pissed?i think d ones, with her outside automat can b left here and one or two suitable ones..pls keep up the policy of NO PRIVATE pics k!

    Comment by e.c.d.w. — April 25, 2008 @ 12:28 am

  53. i have respected emma and will alwiz do so…hearing tht she may nt b tht upset as we thought she is..is somewhat suprising..but she of all ppl shld know..tht papz r indecent..and they finally got what they wanted..on her 18th b’day party….so she really shld b more c’ful too…but i respect her v much..she’s brilliant, classy and talented..

    Comment by e.c.d.w. — April 25, 2008 @ 12:30 am

  54. You should delete *all the candids*.

It’s very hypocritical to just delete the ones “you don’t like”, meaning the crotch shots, and the unflattering ones where she’s scowling etc.

The paparazzi photos are *all* as *equally* intrusive as the next. I’m sure she wouldn’t approve of any of the photos one one her fan sites period.

    Comment by Marion — April 26, 2008 @ 12:01 am

  55. Let’s all have respect for Emma. If you wouldn’t post any personal pictures of her, don’t post the parazzi pics either especially the really intrusive ones. If I were Emma, I would want my personal life and any candids of me out of the public eye. As fans, can’t we just respect her for her professional life and not be so obsessed about her personal life? I think it would be unfair to Emma to post any of the candids considering half of the time she doesn’t even want her picture taken. As fans we should be sticking up for her (like taking down any candids of parazzi pics)not invading her personal life (like posting personal pics and stuff)

    Comment by Alena — April 26, 2008 @ 2:02 am

  56. the paps didn’t go to far

they didn’t go up her dress or anything

    it’s her own fault
    &yall need to realize that.

    Comment by j — April 26, 2008 @ 4:25 am

  57. anyway, whatever em’s intentions were, she was also tipsy, she may nt have known how far the papz would go…so the decent thing is to cont 2 respect em’s privacy and to not post indecent shots of her here…ever.

    Comment by e.c.d.w. — April 26, 2008 @ 10:50 am

  58. as admins of an emma site, advice u guys to do wht’s right…tht is to honour and respect emma…after all..we r all fans of her 4 a reason..and many many ppl-even in my family..look up 2 her…as a star, role model and a good actress…so all those dirty shots of her..shld at all costs be banned..and those-she looks mad/sad…taken off..am told she was nearly in tears..but holding up..papz-rough,crude with everything…and yes, they stuck their lenses up in all d wrong places…disgusting..
