She’s not Hermione anymore. Emma Watson — the 20-year-old actress who has portrayed Harry Potter’s studious BFF, Hermione Granger, in six films over the past decade — has shorn off her character’s long tresses in favor of a short pixie haircut.

“Oh my God, it was the most liberating thing!” she tells EW.com. “The stylist just grabbed the back of my hair and took a whole ponytail of hair out. It felt amazing. I love it.” The chic, gamine cut, created by New York stylist Rodney Cutler of Cutler Salon and seen in this exclusive Polaroid from EW’s upcoming Fall Movie Preview issue, might not seem like a huge deal to most 20-year-olds. But Watson has had to sport essentially the same hairstyle for ten years while she played Hermione.

“I missed all that experimentation that most teenagers go through,” she says. “I’ve wanted to do this since I was about 16, so as soon as I had the chance I was like, ‘Right. This is it.’” Watson, who’s about to enter her sophomore year at Brown University, finished shooting the final two Potter movies this summer — Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will be released Nov. 19, 2010, and Part 2 next summer, on July 15. source

Also, Emma is not returning as the face of Burberry for next season’s campaign; she is being replaced by former Burberry model and up-and-coming actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. There are currently a few articles which discuss the change but it seems Burberry likes to change it’s spokesperson every two years or so in a bid to appear fresh and mode.

“I was actually shopping for a suit in Burberry to wear at one of Emma’s Harry Potter premiere’s when someone from the brand approached and said ‘I think you should meet with Christopher [Bailey],’” said Watson. “It was such a shock but it was a pretty good gig. Emma’s been really great – we get on very well but it’s good to have her there to give me tips. Her main one is to relax and don’t be scared. Easier said than done though. She’s just so efficient!” read more?

Apparently white is one of the colors of the night at the Met’s Costume Institute Gala! Emma Watson doesn’t have to worry, however, since her angelic Burberry and Diane Kruger’s simple Calvin Klein don’t share anything other than a hue. Sarah Mower, the British Fashion Council’s Ambassador for Emerging Talent, and chair of the NEWGEN selection committee, kicked off the event with a breakfast this morning, and Vogue US – together with Harry Potter actress and Burberry model Emma Watson – will be hosting a closing cocktail party at Pulino’s on Thursday evening. Plus the opening date for Universal Orland’s “Harry Potter” theme park has been released with the theme park opening it’s gates to the general public on June 18th 2010! It has been rumoured that the theme park managers are hoping to have the big name Potter stars at the opening ceremony; more information will be released as the opening date comes closer. In related news Emma has also commented on the trio’s involvement on the park saying:

“We are shooting an exclusive piece of film just for the ride,” Watson said of the Forbidden Journey. “[It] kind of encompasses all of the best moments from all of the films.” source

Yahoo! have released a short article with Emma and Dan from the set of ‘Deathly Hallows’! Both actors talk about their characters and the emotional and physical journeys the Trio have to go through during the scenes. Emma Watson noted, “It was so nice to be outside, in the forest and out of the studio – running about. It was so much fun. Because it’s such an emotional, heavy film, it was nice to get out and do some action stuff.

“They were very fun scenes to film. Being out of Hogwarts just makes it really different. It just gives the audience a whole different experience. I’m so excited to see it together.”

In other interview-esque-related-news, Jessie Cave, who played newcomer Lavendar Brown in ‘Half Blood Prince’, has spoken out in a new interview with Scholastic. While she speaks on many topics, one of her questions mentioned Emma!

Q: Who do you think you bonded with most?
Jessie: On set? Definitely Emma [Watson who plays Hermione]. I really got on with Emma really well. I thought she was brilliant. source

The thought of a young successful actress designing an ethical fashion range might seem, at first glance, as nauseating as Katy Perry’s public adoration of Russell Brand. Both just seem too dutiful to be taken seriously. Yet, even though I quietly hoped Emma Watson would become tangled at the first hemp-woven hurdle when the collection was announced in September, she has actually created a very clever range for the retailer-with-a-conscience, People Tree.

What Watson, as Creative Advisor, has done differently, is that she has plaited together several fashionable threads to appeal directly to her peers. She might well be the face of Burberry, and have enjoyed at least one wardrobe deal with Chanel for her red carpet Harry Potter looks, but what Watson provides is an understanding that a bit of Hollister jersey blended into American Apparel basics, and topped off with humorous slogans, will mean that these clothes can transcend their worthy beginnings — and just become cool. source

Edit! WWD Fashion have released an article speaking on the new Burberry campaign. They talked briefly on the relationship between Emma and Alex Watson and the dynamics between them which led to Alex’s inclusion in the campaign and subsequent signing to Storm Models, alongside big sister Emma Watson.

According to a Burberry spokesman, chief creative officer Christopher Bailey met Alex through Emma, and “loved their dynamic, their brother and sister energy,” so he decided to take a chance and use him in the campaign. Alex, who has the same sharp chin and fierce brows as his elder sibling, has since been signed to Storm, Emma’s agency. source
