• Justin Long was originally slated to voice the title character, Despereaux. Ultimately, the role went to Matthew Broderick.
• Sylvain Chomet was originally set to direct before being dismissed by the production company, to be replaced with Sam Fell. Chomet stated his ideas were too dark for them, and that marketing would question his character designs with future merchandising in mind.
• Emma Watson’s second non-Harry Potter role and first animated feature!
• During all of Emma’s voice recording sessions she was given a plastic tiara to help her to get into character.
