She borrows Harry's owl specially to tell them she's a prefect, and receives "tooth-friendly" snacks from her parents, who also show up in Diagon Alley with her. However, they want her to use braces rather then uses magic to fix her large front teeth - which Madam Pomfrey shrank anyway.

Children: Rose and Hugo Weasley

Biography: The Life Part

Jo Rowling, or “JKR”, as her devoted fans often call her, has often said that Hermione Granger is a caricature of herself as a child. Especially in her first year, Hermione is really an “insufferable know-it-all” who relies on her knowledge to keep her insecurity and fear of failure at bay.

In her first year, Hermione starts at Hogwarts having memorized every textbook and practiced several charms and spells. She is uptight about the rules and bossy, and listens eagerly to Percy Weasley. Though in Gryffindor, she remarks during a DA meeting in “Order of the Phoenix” that the Sorting Hat strongly considered putting her in Ravenclaw due to her sharp wits. However, she is also courageous and a loyal friend, and stands as a true Gryffindor.

As Hermione becomes better friends with Ron and Harry, making the third part of the inseparable “trio”, she loosens up a bit. Her steadfastness to the rules is slackened, shown most noticeably as she is the one to brew the illegal Polyjuice Potion in their second year, and she allows Harry and Ron to study off her notes for History of Magic and checks their homework for them.

Up until her fourth year, Hermione is described as having bushy brown hair and very large front teeth, which her dentist parents won’t allow her to fix with magic. When she refuses to go to the Yule Ball with Neville, Ron and Harry, it’s not only the Gryffindors who are curious as to who would ask Hermione Granger. When she shows up with Viktor Krum, international Quidditch player and Triwizard contestant, the girls of Hogwarts are astounded by her amazing good fortune – and her ability to transform her previously plain and rather drab self into someone unrecognizable. Not even Harry recognizes her at first, noticing Krum’s partner as only “a very pretty girl in blue robes.” From the fourth book on, the point that she is in fact a girl is stressed more and more as she and Ginny become close friends, she dispenses advice on Cho and girls to Harry, and she continues to write to Krum through Order of the Phoenix.

Through the Triwizard Tournament and the detentions with Umbridge, Hermione helps Harry enormously. She gains an obsession over elf rights in their fourth and fifth years, attempting to free many elves who do not want freeing and insulting them strongly, if not intentionally. She is an invaluable member of the trio, if not a bit overbearing at times.

In the sixth book, Hermione’s weaknesses in academic areas show up more then ever. She is bested in her Defense Against the Dark Arts O.W.L. by Harry, receiving an E (Exceeds Expectations) while Harry receives an Outstanding. JKR stated at one point before HBP was published that Harry has been becoming more and more competent at DADA since his third year, and finally Hermione must acknowledge defeat as one subject on her list is not an O. She also is bested by Harry in Potions that year. Admittedly, Harry has the textbook of the Half-Blood Prince to assist him, but Hermione still lacks the confidence to deviate from the instructions given by a book. It had formerly been mentioned several times that she lacked any skill whatsoever for flying, however, this is shown up more harshly then ever as Ginny snaps at Hermione not to try to even understand Quidditch.

In Half-Blood Prince, Hermione’s liking for Ron is shown most strongly as Ron acquires a girlfriend for the first time, of whom Hermione is extremely jealous. She makes a point of appearing with Cormac McLaggen, Ron’s Quidditch rival, simply to rile him, and states coarsely to Harry that she “debated” about Zacharias Smith, Ginny’s former boyfriend and thus an enemy of Ron’s.

Starting from Deathly Hallows, Hermione is tested in her friendship (and something more with Ron) with her Trio buddies. At Bill and Fleur's wedding, she appears to dazzle, and Ron finally puckers up the courage to ask her to dance. She is quite approving of Harry's relationship with Ginny, even pushing them closer together. Following the the disastrous wedding reception, the Trio Apparate to the London, where Hermione discovers the newly formed taboo concerning Lord Voldemort. The trio then are forced to retreat to a forest, where again, the waters are tested. Hermione is sent into a spin when Ron leaves, due to ... complications. We discover that Ron's biggest fear is the closeness Harry and Hermione share, and has had inklings of a relationship between the two (Tom Riddle's locket shows the pair of them kissing). Harry sets his fears aside with a firm, "I love Hermione as a sister."

Hermione is also present when Harry discovers the grave and house of the Potter's, visiting Godric's Hollow. The friendship can be seen between the two, when she supports Harry (both emotionally and physically). The rest of her seventh year is a rollercoaster ride of dragons, fire, death and destruction, finally climaxing when Hermione and Ron (finally) kiss, during the Battle for Hogwarts. Harry comicially breaks up the pair with a semi-frustrated, semi-relieved, "Oi, there's a war on here!" Following Voldemort's demise, the epilogue sets most things straight. Ron and Hermione marry and have two children, Rose and Hugo, the former (Rose) of which is in deep competition with Draco Malfoy's son, Scorpious. Hermione has many nephews and nieces, including James Potter, Lily Potter, Albus Severus Potter and Victorie Weasley. The series ends with, "All was well."

All in all, Hermione is a complex character with flaws in several areas. However, she is an invaluable friend to Ron and Harry – if she weren’t there, where would they be now?
